Icing on the Cake that Won’t Break the Bank

I think what I like the most about this icing is how versatile it quickly becomes. First, you can make this a dairy-free icing by using juice or water in place of the milk. Second, try using water, fat-free milk or extracts made with alcohol and have a fat-free icing. Finally, add in some spices or cocoa like on these brownies for a wonderful flavor. Happy baking!

Powdered Sugar Icing

Powdered sugar icing is so amazing. It's cheap, simple and fast to make. It can be both fat free and without dairy for those with dietary restrictions. You can use water, juice, extracts or milk to make the glaze and it's simply delicious any way you make it. A super quick way to dress up your cakes and desserts such as cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (125g) powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbs (15-30mL) juice or water

Instructions

  • Mix together powdered sugar and liquid 1 teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Spread over top of cake. Allow to air dry for several minutes before slicing.

Notes

Lemon juice will add 17 calories, 0.1 grams of fat, 0.4 grams of fiber, 0.2 grams of protein and 1 gram salt.
