Semi-Homemade Means Melting Caramels for Recipes

Eventually, you’ll need a layer of caramel for a recipe that is chewy and not like a sauce. For instance, my millionaire’s shortbread has such a layer. But what if you are not ready to make your own? It can be intimidate to work with, I agree. If you are not quite ready to take that step, this is how to melt store bought caramels. Melting caramels for recipes isn’t cheating. I call it “semi-homemade.”

I was learning how to make caramel and sometimes, I made so many I didn’t know what to do with them. Since there are a lot of recipes that like layers of caramel and I got to thinking “could you just simply remelt caramels and use them?” The answer is yes!

I really like option this because you can simply buy store bought caramels and do the same thing. This is wonderful if you are short on time or just struggle with making caramel and would still like to use it in desserts. Just think, now you can have your own homemade candy bars or a layer of caramel in cakes or even eat a bowl of molten sugar.

Now that you have learned melting caramels recipes is quite simple, what is your plan for them? Happy baking!
