Easy and Delicious Oven-Roasted Potatoes

Oven-roasted potatoes are like french fries healthier cousin. And if you use spices, they are tastier. When you slow bake these spuds, you will have a crispy outside with a soft and tender inside that will rival your favorite fried potato out there.

When it came to making this blog, our emphasis was on flavor over calories. Our goal was to help you learn how to bake so you could modify your favorite recipes into a healthier version. This is one of our favorite alternatives to french fries. By using the oven and time, you can use less oil and save a ton of calories. Not only are they healthier for you, you don’t have to worry about dealing with all that excess oil or having your house smell like a fast food chain for the rest of the week. Instead, your home will smell of spiced goodness. And the clean up is a snap.

They can be sliced in any fashion, the skins can be left on for added nutrients and the sky is the limit on spicing these guys up! We will show you one of our favorite spice blends, but ordinary salt and pepper to tastes works great, too. Don’t be afraid to mix and match the spices.

For instance, next time, add in 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese or a packet of powdered salad dressing. Kick up the spice with hot pepper flakes. Add a bit of seasoned salt. Roasted Potatoes

Oven-roasted potatoes are easy to make, crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. Use any variety of seasonings once you learn how to bake these tasty spuds!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium (290g) potatoes
  • 2 tbs (30mL) oil
  • 1 tsp (5g) salt
  • 1 tsp (3g) paprika
  • ½ tsp (2g) black pepper
  • ½ tsp (2g) garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp (1g) mustard powder
  • ¼ tsp (1g) onion powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F (180C.)
  • Rinse potatoes under cool water and dry.
  • Skin may be peeled or left on. Slice potatoes into 1/2" (1.25cm) cubes.
  • In a large bowl or bag, add 2 tbs (30mL) oil. Toss potatoes until well coated.
  • Add in spices and toss.
  • Line on a non-stick pan without touching. If your pan isn't non-stick, spray with cooking spray or line with parchment.
  • Bake 30 minutes, remove from oven and flip potatoes over for an even browning. Bake an addition 30 – 45 minutes or until desired crispness is achieved. Serve while warm.

Notes

You can omit or add any spices you like.  If you desire to use fresh spices, add when only 10 minutes left to bake to prevent scorching.
