For now, I have no recipe to share on choux pastry. But I will show you how my attempt at learning how to make choux pastry for the first time in my life. Remember, I have a right arm, my dominant side, that cannot bend or move in most ways. It was indeed a challenge! One day, I may try again. But not until I heal some more.
After watching the “Great British Bake Off” I had the bright idea to to try my hand at making choux pastry. It’s really tough to stir! Get ready to build up muscles. It’s amusing how so many make baking look so easy online. I think that’s why I like GBBO, you get to see real people, great bakers, screw up even basic deserts on occasion. It shows we are all fallible and are allowed to have an off day or two in the kitchen.
My experience with Pâte à Choux was indeed an interesting one. I ended up with weird looking hard french toast tasting bread sticks the first time around. I have to say it went well with my equally sad attempts at learning how to make other desserts like custard or pastry cream. After I watched about 50 videos on youtube, I tried again. I had moderate success with my second attempt at learning how to make choux. I could honestly do better, but not today. My arm cannot handle all that stirring!
So whereas there is no recipe as of yet to share, I have invaluable advice when it comes to cooking. Keep trying. You’ll get there eventually.
