Macarons, Macaroons or Mayhem?  That was the phrase I used to question in the early days of learning how to make macarons.  In fact, there is such a debate on how to pronounce macarons that arguments break out in forums dedicated to this cookie and soon mayhem is abound.

For this reason, I learned I would have to look outside the box to master the macaron and just started experimenting.  After a while, I began to document the progress and called them “Macaron Mishaps.”  Much better sounding than “I screwed them up again.”

On this page, I will provide links to the mishaps, a troubleshooting guide and finally, a place to find all of my delicious macaron recipes in one place.  Hopefully, this will be a comprehensive place for you all to learn how to make this nightmare of a cookie turn into a fantastic dream.  I have sense taught others how to make macarons.

My first student nailed them on her first try.  It was then I decided to share with those of you in the world how to make macarons, too.  After all, what is the fun in this cookie if you are the only one that knows how to make it?  Unless your goal is to sell them.  Then maybe you don’t want to share.  But trust me.  Some people will never master this cookie due to disinterest or lack of time.  No need to be stingy with those recipes.

Macarons are a french delicacy. Some like to call them macaroons which is a little coconut cookie, but that’s okay! Macarons, macaroons or mayhem is what we say. They are a delicate, difficult sandwich cookie that is simply beautiful once you learn how to master them.

Macaron Mishaps

This is how I personally learned how to make macarons.  I began baking again with the onset of a condition that left my right arm with limited mobility.  This was the time I decided to try and crack the macaron code.  As a result, I had a lot of trial and error.  More so than most will experience learning how to make the french macaron cookie.
